| Well finally... For those of you that haven't been around the past month, I was in a wreck. Z totalled, not my fault. Long story short, the insurance company for the other guy has been jerking me around, dragging they're feet, and trying to screw me... Here's a couple link to the story, and pics of the wreck. Pics of car Story about wreck So anyway, just posting this info for anybody in my situation, with lots of $$$ tied up in their Z that is totalled. I talked with alot of people who had this happen, along with Steve Hamm from the ZCOT...
I sent in receipts for what all I had done, and invoices for parts I didn't have reciepts for, to show replacement costs... I also sent in about 7 or 8 auto-trader listings of similarly equipped/mileage Z showing the true market value. I also sent a couple ended eBay auctions of Z simlar to mine. Now, lemme take you back, BEFORE i sent all this stuff in, the insurance company tried telling me that market value was what nada would pay... They said the 10k+ i had spent on it didn't add a penny... I argued and argued, but lemme tell you, TALK does nothing. These people will have to see hard proof and evidence, and even then they will try and tell you your car is a 16 year old POS worth 6.5K. 6.5K was the intital price they come up with. I said not even close. I submitted about 30 pgs of documentation to plead my case. After 2 weeks, I get a call yesterday from the insurance guy. I've been waiting over a month to get a serious offer from the people. They offered right over 11K, and that's after the $648 salvage cost for me keeping the car. For those of you who are math-challenged, that's almost a 100% higher offer. They came up 5K on my car, which I was honestly surprised about. Now granted I could've probably gotten more for my car had I sold it, I'm thinking around 12.5K or so, but I'm fine with 11K AND my Z... I'm currently parting it out, and will EASILY make my money back several times for the $648 i payed for it. So now I'm a step closer to taking my Z home... Not gonna give anything away, but I'll be flying Southwest Airlines, and driving the car back... Pics will be coming in the near future. So if you're in a position like mine, make sure you have ALL your receipts, have pictures of your Z PRE-WRECK to prove condition. Send the insurance company and outside appraisers all this stuff, including ads for Z on autotrader, eBay, local classifieds etc to show how much the cars are ACTUALLY going for, not what THEY say they are selling for.
and DON'T back down. DON'T take the first offer, and stay consistent that you KNOW the value of your car, and that you will NOT accept anything less. Trust me, you will know 100X more about our cars, and true value of our cars then ANY of the adjuster or appraisers that you'll come across. Stick to your guns. Either way, it's gonna be a fight, and a pain in the ass. It's not a fun situation, but talk to as MANY people as you can that've been in similar situations in our cars. Search the internet for advice. And talk to an atty, even if over the phone in an intial consulation. The more info you know, the better equipped you are to argue your case. Good Luck, and be looking for pics of my new Z soon :) Donnie Waco300zx
